Common questions

No. All word cards and progress are stored on your device, so you can practice offline — on a plane, on the subway, wherever.

Force-close Word Zap from the iOS app switcher, then reopen it. If it still crashes, make sure you're on the latest version of both iOS and Word Zap from the App Store, then try a restart. If the problem continues, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version so we can dig in.

Since progress is stored locally on your device, deleting the app removes it. Reinstalling on the same device without an intervening backup restore will start you fresh. We're exploring iCloud sync for a future update.

No — core practice works right after download with no account needed. Creating a profile (via Apple or Google sign-in) is optional and lets your points and profile sync across devices. A Premium subscription is also optional and only needed to remove usage limits.

This is usually an App Store issue rather than a Word Zap one. Check your internet connection, confirm you have enough free storage, and try signing out and back into your Apple ID in Settings. If it still won't update, restarting your iPhone typically clears it.

We don't share your data with third parties. Your learning progress stays on your device, while your username, demographic details, and user points are stored on our cloud servers to power profile sync and points-based features. See our full privacy policy for details.

Send us a note and we'll get back to you — usually within a day or two. This opens your mail app with everything filled in, so no address to copy.

Privacy policy

Last updated: January 7, 2026

Welcome to Word Zap. Your privacy is a priority for us. This policy explains how our mobile application handles your data.

1. Information Collection

Word Zap is designed to be a privacy-conscious application. We collect the following types of information:

  • Local application data — your progress, mastered words, favorites, and study level settings are stored locally on your device using an internal database. This data stays on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
  • Cloud account data — if you create a profile, your username, the demographic information you choose to provide (such as age range or country), and your accumulated user points are stored on our cloud servers so your profile can sync across devices and support features like leaderboards.
  • Audio processing — the app processes audio blobs for vocabulary pronunciation locally to provide an interactive learning experience.
  • Device information — we may collect non-personal technical data (device model, OS version) via Google Play Services to ensure app stability and bug fixes.

2. How We Use Information

We use the data collected strictly for the following purposes:

  • To provide the core word-swiping and flashcard functionality.
  • To save your learning progress and session history.
  • To allow you to filter vocabulary based on CEFR levels (A1, A2, B1, etc.).
  • To facilitate offline audio playback of English and German words.
  • To identify your profile by username and sync your user points across devices.
  • To personalize your learning experience based on the demographic information you provide.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your learning progress, mastered words, and settings are stored in the app's private storage on your mobile device and are not uploaded to our servers. Your username, demographic information, and user points, however, are stored on our cloud servers to enable profile sync and points-based features. We apply reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect this cloud-stored data, but no method of transmission or storage is ever fully secure.

4. Third-Party Services

The app may use third-party services (like Google Play Services) that may collect information used to identify you. You can review their privacy policies on their respective websites.

5. Children's Privacy

Word Zap is an educational tool suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our records.

6. Your Rights and Data Deletion

You have control over both your local and cloud-stored data:

  • You can reset your locally stored progress within the app settings.
  • You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the application.
  • You can request deletion of your cloud-stored username, demographic information, and user points by contacting us via email.
  • To request any further information regarding your data, you may contact us via email.

7. Contact Us

If you have any questions or suggestions about our Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to reach out to us here, or email us directly at Email us.

Terms of use

Effective date: August 16, 2026

Welcome to Word Zap. By downloading, installing, or using the Word Zap mobile application (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"), which form a binding end-user license agreement ("EULA") between you and InfoPlus Consulting ("we," "us," "our," or "Licensor"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App.

1. Acknowledgement

These Terms are between you and Licensor only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple") or Google LLC ("Google"), even though you may have downloaded the App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Licensor, not Apple or Google, is solely responsible for the App and its content, as further described in these Terms. Where the App is obtained from the Apple App Store, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary, as described in Section 12 below.

2. Description of the App

Word Zap is a vocabulary-learning app that helps you learn German–English (and other language pairs) vocabulary through swipe-based flashcards, stories, listening exercises, and mini-games. Core practice works fully offline and does not require an account.

3. Accounts and Sign-In

Creating a profile is optional and unlocks cross-device sync for your username, points, and demographic details. You may sign in with your Apple ID or a Google account. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account. You can permanently delete your account and its cloud-stored data at any time from within the App (Profile → Delete Account), or by contacting us.

4. Acceptable Use

  • Use the App only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes.
  • Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App.
  • Do not use bots, scripts, or automated tools to interact with the App or its servers.
  • Do not attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers or other users' accounts.

5. Scope of License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to download and use the App for your own personal, non-commercial purposes on any Apple-branded or Android-branded device that you own or control, and as permitted by the usage rules of the applicable app store. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by us and our licensors.

6. Intellectual Property

All content in Word Zap — including text, graphics, audio, vocabulary data, and software — is owned by us or our licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. No rights are transferred to you other than the limited license in Section 5.

7. Subscriptions and Purchases

Word Zap offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions (Premium Monthly and Premium Yearly) that remove usage limits and unlock additional practice content. The following terms apply to all subscriptions:

  • Price and billing period. The price and duration (monthly or yearly) of each plan are shown in the App and in the applicable app store listing before you purchase. Prices may vary by region and are subject to change; we'll never change the price of an active subscription without notice as required by the app store.
  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price of the plan you selected.
  • Free trials. If we offer a free trial on a subscription, any unused portion of the trial is forfeited once you purchase that subscription.
  • Managing or cancelling. You can manage or cancel a subscription anytime in your device's account settings — on iOS via Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, and on Android via the Google Play app → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
  • Refunds. All purchases are billed and processed by Apple or Google, and refunds are subject to their respective refund policies. We do not directly process payments or issue refunds.

8. Maintenance and Support

We are solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. Apple and Google have no obligation whatsoever to furnish any maintenance or support services with respect to the App.

9. Warranty

We warrant that the App will substantially conform to its description at the time of purchase. If the App fails to conform to this warranty, you may notify Apple or Google, and the applicable store may, to the extent permitted by their terms, refund the purchase price for the App to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple and Google have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to this warranty are our sole responsibility.

10. Product Claims

We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App or your possession and/or use of it, including but not limited to: (i) product liability claims; (ii) any claim that the App fails to conform to applicable legal or regulatory requirements; and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.

11. Third-Party Intellectual Property Claims

In the event of any third-party claim that the App, or your possession and use of it, infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple or Google, will be solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.

12. Legal Compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist-supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

13. Third-Party Terms of Agreement

When using the App, you must comply with the terms of any applicable third-party agreement, such as your wireless data service agreement, so that you do not breach it.

14. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and how we use it.

15. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Except for the warranty described in Section 9, the App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $10 USD, whichever is greater.

16. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms. You may stop using the App, or delete your account, at any time.

17. Third-Party Beneficiary

You acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and that, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary of these Terms.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. We'll revise the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
